A replica of the Agusan Golden Image, previously known as the Golden Tara. The Agusan Golden Image is one of the most precious artifacts that have been found in the Philippines which is a remnant of the Hindu-Buddhist past in many parts of what is now known as the Philippines.
In 1917, a Manobo woman named Bilay Ocampo found it in the banks of the Wawa River after storm came through Agusan del Sur causing a flood. The Golden artifact turned out to be a 21-karat gold figure which was dated to around 850-950 C.E.
There has been debate on who the deity figure represents. While previously it was said to have been a Tara, it has been agreed by many scholars today to actually be Vajralasya, a Buddhist goddess.
The figure is currently held and shown on display in the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, U.S.A.
